6. Sensitive information
In this privacy policy, sensitive information has the meaning given in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and includes information about your health, sexual orientation or practices, religious beliefs, political opinions and certain other categories of information.
Because of the nature of our matchmaking and coaching services, we may collect sensitive information that you choose to provide to us so that we can:
understand your relationship goals, values and lifestyle;
assess emotional readiness and suitability for inclusion in our matchmaking database;
assess compatibility and potential safety considerations when identifying possible matches, including matches identified with Collaborating Matchmakers; and
tailor any coaching or personal development support that you choose to engage in with us.
We will only collect sensitive information from you:
with your consent, which you give when you voluntarily provide that information to us or submit an application form that asks for it; or
where we are otherwise permitted or required to do so by law.
Sensitive information that is relevant to compatibility, such as your faith, values and political views, may be included in Profile Previews sent to potential matches and may be shared with Collaborating Matchmakers where it is directly relevant to assessing compatibility, as described in section 7.
We will handle sensitive information with additional care and will only use or disclose it where reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this privacy policy, for a directly related purpose that you would reasonably expect, or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
7. Matchmaking applicants and database
If you apply to be included in our matchmaking database, we will collect the personal and sensitive information you provide in your application, your audio or video submission and any follow-up communications. If you apply for Dedicated Search, we may also collect information during calls with you.
Profile Previews
Before an Introduction, we may share selected profile information about you with a potential match for them to consider. This may include your first name, age, general location, height, general industry, photographs, a brief bio and information relevant to compatibility, such as your values, faith, political views, lifestyle and relationship goals.
We do not share your surname or contact details in a Profile Preview. Your surname and contact details will only be shared once both individuals have expressed mutual interest and, where you are a Connect by Laura client, you have accepted the Pre-Date Agreement in our Terms & Conditions.
Photographs
Photographs you provide with your application may be shared with potential matches in Profile Previews and with Collaborating Matchmakers. You can email us at any time to update or remove your photographs.
Audio or video submissions
Your audio or video submission is used only by us to assess compatibility and suitability. We do not share the recording with potential matches or Collaborating Matchmakers. We may share our own notes and impressions from it, such as your energy and how you communicate, as part of your profile information.
Collaborating Matchmakers
We work with independent matchmakers (Collaborating Matchmakers) to identify compatible potential matches. When you apply, you give a single acknowledgement in our application form that accepts our Terms & Conditions, acknowledges this privacy policy and consents to your information being shared with Collaborating Matchmakers. You must give this acknowledgement to submit your application. We do not ask for this consent again for each potential match.
We may share relevant profile information about you with a Collaborating Matchmaker where we reasonably consider it necessary to assess compatibility. This may happen as part of a preliminary compatibility assessment, before any Profile Preview is sent or Introduction is agreed. This may include your first name, age, general location, photographs, personality, communication style, values, lifestyle, interests, relationship goals and partner preferences. We only share sensitive information where it is directly relevant to assessing compatibility. We never share your audio or video recordings. We do not share your surname or contact details unless both individuals have expressed mutual interest.
Collaborating Matchmakers sign a written confidentiality agreement before we share any information with them. They may use the information only to assess compatibility and facilitate Introductions and must delete it when it is no longer needed or when we ask.
Collaborating Matchmakers operate independently and their screening, verification and matchmaking processes may differ from ours. If a potential match has come through a Collaborating Matchmaker, we will let you know before an Introduction is made.
We may also receive information about a Collaborating Matchmaker's clients for the purpose of assessing compatibility on your behalf.
You may withdraw your consent to sharing with Collaborating Matchmakers at any time by emailing us. If you do, you will remain eligible for matches within Connect by Laura.
Marketing
We will not use your name, photographs, audio or video submission or relationship story in any marketing, social media or testimonial without your written consent.

You may ask us to update or remove your information from our matchmaking database at any time by emailing us.
When your Membership or participation in our services ends, we will remove you from consideration for matches and delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period. This includes information held for us on the third-party platforms we use for applications, records and email.
We may retain information where we need it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our Terms & Conditions, including records of your acceptance of our Terms & Conditions. Payment records held by PayPal are governed by its own policies. Where we have shared your information with a Collaborating Matchmaker, we will ask them to delete it.
9. Security
We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is secure and protected from misuse or unauthorised access. Our information technology systems are password protected and we use a range of administrative and technical measures to protect these systems. However, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information.
Because we handle sensitive information, we take additional care in protecting this data, including by:
limiting access to your information to personnel and contractors who need it to perform their role;
using password protection and access controls on our database and file storage systems; and
using secure, reputable third-party platforms (for example, for forms, databases, email and scheduling) and configuring them with appropriate privacy and security settings.
